Made by Women, Worn with Purpose

March is the month when we reflect on women’s history and the women who have shaped our lives. We have witnessed many women leaders who have helped build the world around us. We have experienced nurturing women and supportive women, creative women and resilient women. This month is special for Asmi because the brand exists for women, made by women.
Skilled women artisans living in Mumbai, India are the heart behind every Asmi dress. They cut the fabrics and stitch each seam that helps bring the garment to life. Their work is thoughtful and precise and requires patients and attentions, which is reflected in their craftmanship. Each finished piece tells a story that often goes unseen.
Slow fashion often focuses on sustainability and quality, but the human element is just as important. Supporting women-led production means supporting fair wages so they can provide for their families. It also means dignified working environments so that they can take pride in the work they are doing. Clothing may seem simple, but the impact of how it’s made can reach families and entire communities.
Although Asmi began with something as practical as a love for dresses with functional pockets, it grew into something deeper. Asmi is about connection between the women who make the dresses to the women who wear them. It’s the idea that fashion can support real life while honoring the hands behind every stitch.
This March, I choose to honor the women who make Asmi possible, from the women who help create each garment to the women who choose to wear them.
